Tulsa Golfers in 9th Place at the National Invitational

Nicolas Geyger one-stroke off the lead

Tucson, Arizona - Tulsa's Nicolas Geyger carded a three-under par 69 on Sunday in first round action at the National Invitational Tournament to lead the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa is in a ninth-place tie after an opening round 296, while Geyger is one stroke off the lead heading into second round action at the par-72 Omni Tucson National Golf Course.

TCU leads the team race with a 13-under par 275 total, 11 strokes better than second-place New Mexico and UNLV's 286 total. Kent State (287) and Arizona State (290) round out the top-5 teams.

Geyger, starting on hole 10 today, was even at the turn with a bogey and birdie. After a bogey on the first hole of his final nine holes, Geyger birdied holes 2, 4, 5 and 8. He finished with a three-under par 69 for fifth place, but only trails the leaders by one stroke.

UNLV's Eddie Olsen, Steve Saunders of New Mexico and TCU's Robby Ormand and Jordon Woolf are all tied for first-place after round of 68 on Sunday.

Tulsa's Rob Laird shot a two-over par 74 and sits in 34th place after the first 18 holes. Ryan Brooks is two shots behind Laird with a round of 76 for 56th place. Ville Vaisanen is in 63rd place after an opening round five-over par 77. Phillip Reiser is in 80th place with a round of 90.

Second round action takes place on Monday with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
